Feeling nervous about that important meeting? Here are 3 things to help.
Whether you’ve got interviews coming up, a big presentation with your main client, or you’re preparing to negotiate a promotion... it can be nerve wracking.
Maybe you’ve done the work. You’re ready to knock the interviewers socks off. You prepped the presentation up the wazoo. You did your research for your business case.
But now... the meeting is on the books. You can see the clock counting down.
Your palms are sweating. You can feel your deoderant working overtime. The back of your neck is hot and although you just used the restroom... you feel like you should go again.
We’ve all been there.
So here are three things that might help you feel a little bit more in your body and prepared.
Shake those jitters out! Our bodies build up tension with nerves. So let’s release them! Whether you’re going to dance to your favorite pop song, throw in a couple bathroom jumping jacks, or take a brisk walk around the block - get your body moving. Even if it’s a simple shaking of your hands and rolling your shoulders out. Release that tension!
Giggle your heart out! Your brain is likely going on overtime trying to prepare for every possible outcome. Let’s pause and watch something hilarious. Laughter releases endorphins and can boost your mood. It can also make this moment feel not as... precious. It gives us some perspective and joy.
Be your own cheerleader! Going into an interview or tough presentation might mean you’re questioning yourself. A little imposter syndrome creeps in. Before it does, ask yourself... Am I good at what I do? Am I proud of my work? Am I confident that I’ve done my best? If the answer is yes... tell yourself before you go in “I’m good at what I do. My work is good. I have done my best.”
Good luck.
