If you’re feeling the new year, new me vibe - congratulations! According to James Clear, one of the best times to build new habits and create lifestyle changes is at the beginning of a week, month, or year.

But if you’re feeling nervous, anxious, or that undercurrent of discomfort when it comes to taking on something new in 2022, read on.

Today we’re covering off on Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual by Luvvie Ajayi Jones. Luvvie Ajayi Jones is a New York Times bestselling author and sought after speaker who thrives at the intersection of comedy, justice, and professional troublemaking. This was her second book and an instant bestseller after her debut, I’m Judging You.

Biggest whoa moment: Self-reliance is a slippery slope to destruction. ****Her adamant focus on the importance of getting help and battling your need for control is a painful lesson I’m guessing most of us need to hear.

“Fire Yourself. Outsource some of your life. Because you know what won't be cute on a tombstone? 'Her grind was impeccable, and she did it all by herself.'”

She reminds us that asking for help and/or hiring people doesn’t mean you aren’t in charge, it means you’re refocusing on what you need to succeed.

What tasks have you been taking on lately because “no one else does it like you.” Where can you delegate? Your time is precious, and, you might discover someone else might not do it like you... they might do it better than you.

Put it into practice now: When Luvvie Ajayi Jones enters a room, she prays: “Please let my helper find me. Let me not miss the right connections I am supposed to make. Let me not miss the reason I am here.”

The next time you’re in a moment of high-growth and discomfort, try giving yourself this pep talk, this moment of goodwill, of understanding that there are people out there to become part of your team, part of your journey, and mission.

Still feeling nervous about looking for your helpers, the people that will grow your community? Flip the script. If someone came to you and asked for your help, or shared a challenge that you were well-suited to support them on - would you help? I’d hazard a guess and say yes.

People want to help. It feels good to help someone. And it’s a brilliant act of bravery to go out into the world and ask for assistance.
